Winning Hands in Poker

Article written by Lloyd B Hunt

Starting from the best hand:

Royal Flush: the five highest cards, 10 to Ace with all five from the same suit. There is no suit order in poker so in the unlikely event of two people having royal flushes, this will be a tie.

Straight Flush: Five consecutive cards in numerical order from the same suit.

Four Of A Kind: Four cards of the same denomination.

Full House: Three cards of the same denomination, plus a pair of cards of a different denomination. The three of a kind takes precedence over the pair, if there is a tie.

Flush: Any five cards of the same suit.

Straight: Five consecutive cards in numerical order from a different suits.

Three Of A Kind: 3 cards of the same denomination.

Two Pairs: Two cards of the same denomination, plus another two cards of the same denomination.

Pair: Any two cards of the same denomination.

High Card: the highest card held, if none of the above is applicable.

For some of the poker games, such as those with reduced decks, there are differences such as a flush beating a full house.

Good Luck!!!
