3 card poker

Article written by Lloyd B Hunt
Sunday, June 01, 2008

Ever wondered how to play this game, well then read on. Three card poker is a form a stud consisting of three ways to bet, and four ways to win. You play against the dealer only in this game.

Here are the ranking of the hands from low to high: • Highest Card – Ace is high but A, 2, 3 is a straight • Pair • Flush • Straight • Three of a Kind • Straight Flush

Ways to Bet • Play against dealer • Bet on your Hand Value • Bet Both

You start by placing a bet in the “Ante” spot. The dealer then deals three cards to everyone including themselves. You then look at your hand and either fold (losing the ante) or continue and place a bet equal to your ante in the “Play” area. The dealer must “qualify” by having a hand with Queen or higher. If you play, here are the four possible outcomes:

• Dealer does not qualify – You get paid even money on your ante only. • Dealer qualifies and your hand beat his - you get paid even money on your ante and your play bet. • Dealer qualifies and their hand beats yours – you lose both bets • Dealer qualifies and your hands tie – your bets are returned

If your hand is premium you also get a bonus on your ante, whether the dealer qualifies or not.

• Straight pays 1-1 • Three of a Kinds pays 4 to 1 • Straight Flush pays 5 to 1

Betting on your Hand Value You place a bet in the “Pair Plus” area and after the cards are dealt you get paid by these payouts:

• Pair wins 1 to 1 • Flush wins 4 to 1 • Straight wins 6 to 1 • Three of a Kind wins 30 to 1 • Straight Flush wins 40 to 1

If you play to beat the dealer, the general rule of thumb is if your hand is Q-6-4 or better you should play it. Statistically, that hand is better to play than fold. So the next time, you see this game, you will now be ready.
