High Stakes Poker has announced its lineup for Season Five of the hit poker game show on the Game Show Network. It should be the hottest season yet and it is being filmed at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. Show veterans Doyle Brunson, Antonio Esfandiari, Barry Greenstein, Daniel Negreanu, and Eli Elezra will all be participating as they have in every season so far.
Some new faces will be in attendance in this season including Peter Eastgate (2008 WSOP Main Event Champion), Nick Cassavetes (director of The Notebook), Sam Simon (“The Simpsons” co-creator, and Dario Minieri. The buy-in minimum for this season has been set at $200,000 which is double from last year. Last year there was the occasional $1,000,000 pot but with this new buy-in, there should be some hefty sized pots being raked in.
This television poker game has some interesting variations to it that you normally don’t find in the casino. In past season, there has been variations like straddling, double straddling, running the board more than once for all-in bets and a 2-7 rule where any player that wins with 2-7 collects $500 from all the other players. Players are also allowed to make prop bets on the side.
Filming starts Friday December 19th through Sunday December 21st and takes place from 12:30 PM to 9:30 PM every day. The filming set is not open to the public. The long list of players set to appear include Patrik Antonius, Mike Baxter, David Benyamine, Doyle Brunson, Nick Cassavetes, Ivan Demidov, Tom Dwan, Peter Eastgate, Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Barry Greenstein, Phil Hellmuth, Jr., Phil Ivey, Phil Laak, Howard Lederer, Giorgio Medici, Dario Minieri, Daniel Negreanu, Ilari Sahamies, Bob Safai, and Sam Simon.
