Poker World Record attempt at PokerStars.com

News By George Dice
Monday, December 22, 2008

PokerStars is trying to set a world record on Sunday December 28th 2008. The attempt is for the world’s largest online poker tournament field of players. The tournament will only allow a maximum of 35,000 players and if it does, it will set an official Guinness Book of World Records.

PokerStars is guaranteeing $500,000 minimum in payouts. The buy-in for this event is only $10+1 which is very reasonable to have your name as part of a world record. If you do the math, you will soon realize that this tournament offers a very nice overlay for anyone participating.

The blinds are set to change every 10 minutes giving this tournament the feel of a turbo tournament. Add in 3,500 tables, players are going to need to gather chips quickly to make it to the finals.

PokerStars has set this tournament to begin in the middle of holiday season on December 28th 2008 at 3:30 PM ET. The tournament is available under the “Tournaments -
> Special” tab in the PokerStars software.

Guinness Book of Records usually takes around six weeks to complete verification of the record. PokerStars held a similar tournament last year which attracted over 20,000 players which Guinness would have recognized as the largest tournament at that time. Player Lynna1 won 1st place and $20,000 in prize money. This new record setting attempt should officially easily break last year’s record with such a low entry fee.

Over 2,000 players have already registered for the event. To ensure that you are part of this record attempt, you should enroll in this tournament now.
