Poker Players Want to Legalize Their Game
Article written by Luisa Stadler

In Washington, a lot of poker players and other gambling advocates want to legalize the sport of online gaming and its subcategories, such as online poker. The director of the PPA (Poker Player Alliance) has claimed that internet gaming needs to be regulated more closely because it is the number one cause of underage gambling. Underage gambling has been proven to lead early gambling addictions and destructive lifestyles. Many people, part of the Poker Player Alliance, are asking Congress to meet with them and talk about solutions to this problem. With proper solutions in place for regulation of online gaming, online poker could be a safe, legal hobby while protecting our children from underage gambling addictions.
Representative Barney Frank champions the cause
Barney Frank is a representative in the House from Massachusetts. He sits as the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and he sees the measure as providing consumer protection and a potential source of tax revenue. Representative Frank is involved with this matter because it is possible for gaming winnings, from games such as online poker, to be taxed by the government and he is pushing for this bill to pass. Representative Frank champions the cause despite the fact that other high ranking officials involved with this matter, do not want to allow the poker appeal to reach fruition, due to the fact that other problems, such as gambling addiction and underage gambling, have occurred in connection with the online poker and gaming that poker advocates are trying to legalize.
The Poker Players Voice
According to the members of the Poker Players Alliance and other poker advocates, they will not stop seeing each other for the enjoyment of their game and they seek for what they see as the best solution for them. All they want is to have a full enjoyment of their game along with the excitement and adventure that is an integral part of online poker.
Even though online poker has its intrinsic problems, such as youth gambling and addiction (mainly due to the fact that it is so convenient and so difficult to properly regulate), the players are very eager to get their day in court regarding the game they love and the legalization of online poker and other gaming that they want to happen. The advocates of online poker and gaming are also planning to bring their issues before all of the members of Congress to recruit additional champions to their cause.
The Waiting Game
Gambling, including online poker, is a hot box of debate. Advocates and opponents of online poker and other gambling weigh in heavily on both sides of the discussion. Both sides see the argument as one they can not afford to lose. The gambling advocates because they do not want to give up their sport and the opponents because they feel they will have lost a portion of society to the problems associated with legalized gambling. In the end, Congress will make the final decision on who wins so the process has become a waiting game.
For now, advocates of poker are still waiting to hear on whether they will be given the concession of online gaming or not. Legalization of online poker and other gambling is a matter of time and chance, just like the game they hold dear. Many states have already legalized gambling on the state level so it is possible for the nation as a whole to accept online gaming as well. It may take plenty of time waiting but by gathering support for their cause and making Congress aware of their collective voice it may lead the legalization of online poker throughout the country.
