Dave Cain has set a record for poker playing, one that will soon be a new Guinness World Record. His record is for poker endurance. Although the word has not been made official yet, it is expected to come any day. The record was set at the Library Bar in Lincolnshire, England when he played for 74 hours and 12 minutes. Cain played from September the 14 – 17th. Cain had this to say about his ordeal at the table “I had some pretty bizarre hallucinations. Everybody who played on the table signed the table and all the signatures turned into spiders at one point, which is pretty freaky. It was one of those scary times. I absolutely wasn't right." His wild experience not only made him think that he had lost his mind but he also lost his ability to play poker. "I was totally insane. Not so much at the end, but about five hours before the end I completely forgot how to play. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. There was a team of people around me and basically they had to explain the rules to me as I played each hand. I went complete blank for about an hour and a half. I knew where I was but with the poker I didn't have a clue," said Cain. Kay Fahey, his partner, supported him throughout the event. Cain says it was well worth the insanity and is extremely thankful that Fahey was there for him. "It was a special moment," said Cain. "I think she was a bit surprised but I couldn't ask for better. She's the absolute love of my life." To make it official, Guinness needs to gather all the information, witness statements, logs, video and even hand by hand details. Guinness takes records very seriously. You would think that setting this record and the toll it had on Cain would deter him from doing such a thing again but he is now looking at setting his sights on the longest heads up match against the former World Record holder of longest play Larry Olmsted who’s record was 72 hours and two minutes.
