Poker World Poker Tour - The Forces Behind It

Article by David Mclauchlan

In a poker tournament, each player sits down with the same number of chips, and eventually only one player has any chips left. That is the basic idea behind a tournament. Each card room runs tournaments differently. Tournaments are usually played with chips that have no value outside of the tournament. So a buy-in of $30 might get you $500 in tournament chips to play with, but you can't cash them out in the middle.

Gambling (or betting) is any behavior involving risking money or valuables (making a wager or placing a stake) on the outcome of a game, contest, or other event in which the outcome of that activity depends partially or totally upon chance or upon one's ability to do something.

Have you seen the World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel? If not yet, then you better catch the World Poker Tour every Wednesday on such channel for you to gain some understanding about such event.

However, for those who are not familiar with the things behind the World Poker Tour, it is interesting to know that the World Poker Tour is a poker event that is actually composed of two different aspects. First, such event is considered to be an elite high stakes Texas Holdem tournament drawing both the beginners as well as the poker veterans. Nevertheless, the World Poker Tour is a television show on the Travel Channel that is intended to pull a vast number of audiences of novice poker players, and even the poker dreamers. Outside from these two classifications, it is good to know that both the tournament and the television side of the World Poker Tour are proportionally impressive and catchy.

Furthermore, the World Poker Tour is generally a series of 15 Texas Holdem tournaments, in which 12 of those are shown on the Travel Channel. And interestingly, such tournaments are held around the globe, in places starting from Costa Rica, to Los Angeles, to France, and with the World Poker Tour Championship tournament being held at in Las Vegas. In addition, this big event to the world of poker is composed of such amazing tournaments in which in each of the 14 tournaments following the World Poker Tour Championship the ruler will receive both a $25,000 buy in to the World Poker Tour Championship, and the grand prize for the said tournament itself.

It is also interesting to know that the individual tournament prizes ranges depending on the member of entries. It is noted that in the past, the grand prize of the tournament has ranged from $100,000 for smaller tournaments to $1,000,000 for the World Poker Tour Championship. Along with the standard tournaments, the World Poker Tour holds a celebrity invitational tournament each season. And this tournament is between the Hollywood celebrities against the poker masters. The celebrities in such event have the opportunity to win a large amount of money for their favorite charity as well as a place in the World Poker Tour Championship tournament. With this fact, the World Poker Tour is really fun to watch.

Aside from the World Poker Tour tournaments, the World Poker Tour television maintains a method for novice poker players and the poker masters to take a look at the pros compete. It is noted that there are several features that this television show holds which greatly makes it viewer friendly. In addition, at this show, there are small cameras that zoom in to each of the players hole cards, play-by-play commentary, definitions of the poker lingo, and on screen displays of percentages, and some information on how these percentages change as the cards fall. With such fact about the World Poker Tour, it is not at all surprising that the growing popularity of the World Poker Tour is greatly attributed to those mentioned factors. And as a tribute to the popularity of such event, the World Poker Tour Championship, Season 1, was said to be the second highest rated individual program in the Travel Channel history.
